Hello, Art Monkeys! I am excited to announce that the brief, transitional hiatus is almost over!

We had an awesome first 4 months in the lovely Meanwhile Bar beer garden! But alas, not only is Sketchy's growing quickly but, the fast approaching cold weather months forced me to seek out a new venue due to space and, you know, freezing temperatures...

As we hold the Meanwhile dear to our hearts (and continue to get sloshed over there) I am please to reveal that Sketchy's will now be held at Sazerac Lounge!

Not only are we going to be in a new space, but Sketchy's is going to be a whole lot SEXIER!

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School 2.0: Class begins November 28th and will be held the 4th Saturday of every month! Art time is 6pm - 9pm as usual.

There is a new price, $10 to participate. I know we we're loving the lower rate BUT, you get a bargain deal for your hard earned cash............

A new burlesque event is in town! Shimmy Shack Burlesque debuts Nov. 28th, 10pm - 1am, following the return of Dr. Sketchy's.

Dr. Sketchy Art Monkeys who pay $10, get into Shimmy Shack for FREE!

In between the two events, DJ Dizzy JD will be on hand to rock you into special sexy time!
There may even be some gals shakin' it, to get you warmed up for the show.

Shimmy Shack Burlesque will feature your favorite babes from Super Happy Funtime Burlesque, a brand new, demented host, plus NEW babes to keep your drool fresh!

Basically you get all the gal time, and less talking, as this show focuses on the Tease!

September was the biggest Dr. Sketchy's GR yet!

We had the largest turn out, the most models at one time, and the antics level went through the non-roof of the Meanwhile Bar beer garden!...perhaps an intergalactic level of antics?

The roller girls were nutty, lewd, liquor guzzlin' and hilariously frisky as models.

Memorable moments include posed hair pulls, Quarter Boy brandishing a giant, golden...er...member, while wearing a prom-brides-something dress and we cannot forget King Aiko's impromptu Buddha striptease cum instant modeling sesh!

Those wild women managed to rock their poses atop a picnic table while wearing skates! Proving that Derby Girls kick serious ass and have balance to make make monkeys jealous.

Additionally, the Gals brought such an overflow of Derby merch for prizes that we added a 2nd and 3rd place to each contest to spread the logo love!

Terry Johnston, photographer extraordinaire, was September's celebrity judge and rocked the role in style, clad in a super-fab roller girl outfit complete with toe-pinching, ultra-retro hot skates!

He also managed to nab some wonderful shots, featured here in the very blog post!

Yehaw and Phew! Golden memories, indeed.

Jonathan Clay is one of my favorite additions to the growth of Dr. Sketchy's.

During each contest, Jon dutifully circles the artist, alongside the judge, and photographs every art piece under consideration.

The result is an already massive collection of zany, compelling, masterful, scribbling art.

Each shot of an artpiece is composed for maximum artfulness which goes far beyond a simple record of the work. The result is a double whammy of an awesome photo depicting awesome art.

Adept at candid bar shots, Jon also captures the excitement, inebriation, and serious art making, of the event.

I'll say it again, it's impossible to properly showcase ALL of the shots....and I lament this fact!

Terry Johnston is everywhere.....he is found backstage, shooting burlesque babes and demented gorilla clowns, hobnobbing with some big-wig, important type or leading herds of effusive photogs throughout our fair city. He is my main go-to for all my photo shoot needs and has varieties of sneakers to match ANY outfit combo!

I was excited to finally have him grace Dr. Sketchy's GR with his snazzy self. Next month he will be the featured, celebrity judge!

I have had to cut off my clickin' hand to restrain myself from posting all of the striking images he created from the evening.

Queen-a-rama

Jasinya Sanchez, drag queen/comedienne/character actor/songstress, provided a stunning bodyscape for the Art Monkeys on August 15th.

As Joan Crawford, a harem girl and a retro, beach babe pin-up, Jasinya held her art-making audience captive, while being captured herself through various mediums.

Several pencil wielding sketchers reverted to their photographic roots, creating quite the shoot out between themselves and professional photogs, Terry Johnston and Jonathan Clay, whose images will grace this blog often.

Prizes like two tickets to Jasinya's comedy show, Old Lady Monday, were given away. A custom Audacious Hoop was nabbed. A Meanwhile tee shirt was won, not to mention tons of free shots - all during contests like "draw the model as your zodiac sign" and "draw the model armless because her limbs were eaten by zombies."

The contests were lorded over by celebrity judge and artist himself, Corey Ruffin aka Mr. Happypants, who insisted far too often, that there were "too many" great images, and "can we do a tie?" And I thought he would be a hardass!

Velveeta the Cheetah, the glass walking, Super Happy Funtime Burlesque vixen and extra-super-literate lass, sent pencils and pens....ahem...mightily a-quiver at the second installment of Dr. Sketchy's!

Tickets to Sarah Jean Adventure Time's one woman show, One Pretty Funny Girl: Reloaded were given away, an Audacious Hoop gift certificate was doled out and an official Meanwhile Bar t-shirt was bestowed upon one lucky torso.

Raindrops were bravely dodged and the legion of Dr. Sketchy's Art Monkeys grew!

Explosive Beginning

Grand Rapids, Michigan gave birth to it's own branch of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School* on June 20, 2009.

Debut model, La La Vulvaria of Super Happy Funtime Burlesque fame (among other striking and notable achievements) blew everyone away with her smokin' hot assets and pretzel-like poses.

At the evening's close, titillated and tipsy from winning booze during zany contests, the newly christened Art Monkeys bumbled into the night, ardently devoted to the wildest art event in town!

Once a month, adventurous and mercurial artists (and non-artists alike) will convene at The Meanwhile bar for a rollicking and unpredictable Dr. Sketchy's "Life Drawing" event hosted by the Vivacious Miss Audacious.Each month will feature a different, striking and notable, muse, clad in outrageous garb, posing for you!

Well, avoid using blood....

While the model breaks to revive the feeling in her/his appendages and digits, there are stimulating contests and snazzy prizes!
